The Tanjaro was historically a large river that was fishable, swimable, and drinkable. It has been depleted by overuse and encroaching development. Nabil had this to say about his most recent visit:
Every time I go to Tanjaro River by the Sulaimani city dump I find new and more threats. The disaster that we have to solve is this new factory! They are melting old tires to make oil! The water waste from this factory is going down to Tanjaro Rriver oil dump not far from the river.
