As part of Jensen Project to preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the Iraqi central marshes and to empower the effective management of the national park in the central marshes, Nature Iraq Organization conducted awareness and education activity in February 17th and 18th 2015 about the risks of overhunting and overfishing. The activity coincided with the breeding season of fish in the area, to which there is an imposed closed season to prevent fishing in the national park (from February 15th to April 15th).
The activity included handing out and sticking educational posters in checkpoints and important places of public gathering.
The posters were stuck and handed out to local councils, schools, agriculture directorates, veterinary clinics, guest houses of prominent local figures, police checkpoints, youth and sport clubs and other important places within the districts and sub-districts in the national park area in the three governorates of Thi Qar, Basra and Misan.
Light has been shed by some local and international TV channels like Hurra Sat. Channel and BBC Arabic Sat. Channel on the risks of overfishing and overhunting of birds in the national park area.
