Mountainfilm is an annual film festival held in Telluride, Colorado, dedicated to educating, inspiring and motivating audiences about issues that matter, cultures worth exploring, environments worth preserving, adventures worth pursuing and conversations worth sustaining. The Moving Mountains prize is a unique aspect of Mountainfilm, which gives $3000 to nonprofit organizations featured in films presented at the festival, not the film itself. Judges watch the nominated films and examine the mission of each organization, considering its scope, impact and need.
Previous winners of the prize have included the Wampanoag Language Reclamation Project and Democratic Voice of Burma.
Nature Iraq is profiled in John Antonelli’s short film Marshland Dreams, which focuses on the work of Azzam Alwash, Nature Iraq’s founder, and the restoration of the Mesopotamian Marshlands.
Watch the film below, and learn more about Nature Iraq’s ongoing work in the marshes.
