The big butterfly and dragonfly hunt

4/30/2015

These spectacular insects are important indicators of healthy environments particularly of water quality. But we know remarkably little about what species are found in Iraq and where they are found. To help us understand more we are continuing Iraq’s first ever citizen science project. Throughout May, we are asking people to go out and take pictures of butterflies and dragonflies and to send them to us. You can even send old pictures that you have, just tell us when you took them. All the submitted images will be named by international experts and the results will be available on our interactive online map. (www.iraqdarwin.org/thebighunt)

You can download a leaflet telling you more about these amazing insects and the project here (http://iraqdarwin.org/thebighunt/).

You can read more about species which have recently been found for the first time in Iraq here (http://www.natureiraq.org/…/four-new-species-of-dragonfly-f…)
