Nature Iraq Organization has held a workshop in Chibaish city in March 2nd, 2015 about the production and marketing of the handcraft products within Jensen Project of conserving the cultural and natural heritage in the central marshlands and the proper management of the national park in this area.
The workshop was attended by decision makers from the local councils, representatives from the Iraq Ministry of Water Resources and universities, tribal leaders, civil activists and craftsmen from three governorates of Basra, Thi Qar and Missan.
The workshop tackled several topics. It began with the definition of handcrafts, types of handcrafts and ways of marketing handcraft products in the local, national and international markets as well as ways to handle such products according to costumer type.
One important topic was the cost of the handcraft products. The cost has an important role in the work's success. It contains the cost of the raw material, labour and indirect industrial costs which have to be weighed to calculate the total cost and then put the proper price on the product.
The attendants had participated effectively in the workshop as several of them gave constructive comments and opinions in order to achieve full comprehension of the subject.
